More About the Venue
WindyCityRails will be held in IIT’s McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC) which is immediately beneath the CTA Green Line at 33rd street.
The large stainless steel structure above MTCC is a fluted acoustical tube, a structure that drastically reduces the sound & vibrations from the train inside the building. The tube directs the noise of the train upward and away from MTCC, rendering the interior quiet enough for a normal conversation. What an amazing feat of acoustical, structural, and mechanical engineering!
Hotels & Transportation
A few people from out-of-town have asked for hotel recommendations.
The Chicago Hilton & Towers is on South Michigan Avenue, across the street from Grant Park and near the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and Field Museum of Natural History. Of all the downtown hotels, it's closest to the IIT Campus where WindyCityRails is being held. A great sushi restaurant, OYSY, is only a few blocks away.
Keep in mind that most of the downtown hotels are near an El stop that can get you to WindyCityRails. If you want to ride one train without having to transfer, stick with a hotel near the CTA Green Line.
